Important Things to Consider in Choosing Baby Swings
An infant swing is a great piece of furniture to have especially for first time moms and dads. But not all baby swings were made equal. Different types and models are made available in the market today which makes it all the more difficult for parents to finally decide on what unit to take home.
Your budget will definitely come into view when picking out your choice. Baby swings come in different price ranges according to the features, attachment and capacity of the unit. When you can afford to buy the best one, be sure to check and compare your options. Also, keep these things in mind:
Swings with larger capacity are usually more expensive than others that have a limit of less than 15 lbs. Try to find one that can accommodate your child even after his infant years. Some units have as high as 25lbs capacity.
An option for speed control is also one important thing to consider in choosing a swing. This is because some babies like slow paced swings and some, especially colicky ones, like the faster paced sort. Vibration features and side swing motions are more advanced features of the more pricey models.
A very important consideration is the unit’s safety feature which should include at least a 5-point harness with a strap that is meant to be wrapped between the legs, then around the waist and shoulders and can be adjusted easily.
Of course, baby’s comfort is another important matter. The pads should be soft and must be placed firmly on the swing sides to avoid suffocation.
You will also want to consider the features of the swings and the add-ons that come with it. Some models have more than one sound effect or music and some have mobiles and toy trays for baby’s entertainment. Other, more advanced models even have wifi baby monitors, mp3 and LCD TVs.
Lastly, you may also want to consider the brand or manufacturer of the swing. More popular brands are known to be more responsible in ensuring the quality and safety of their products than lesser-known and new manufacturers. Be sure to also watch out for recall announcements which are also usually listed by these more established brands. Make sure that you buy new stocks from the store and ask the sales person regarding news and advisories on recalls of brands of baby swings.
